Scott Bates, who just returned to Connecticut after several weeks in the two war-torn nations, will discuss the conflicts’ implications for Connecticut and the region’s business community at the weekly meeting of the Milford Rotary, Thursday, March 11, at noon at Aldario’s Restaurant, 240 Naugatuck Ave.
Bates is vice president of the Washington-based Center for National Policy where he also is a Senior Fellow for National Security. For many years, he has worked to build democracies in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq. He is a resident of Stonington where he serves as a police commissioner.
Sent to Afghanistan soon after the Taliban was defeated in 2002, Bates worked with delegates to a United Nations-sponsored gathering of tribal chiefs who sought to form a new government.
