U.S. encourages Yemen to launch peace talks with al-Qaida militants: ambassador

The U.S. government “would encourage Yemen to engage in peace talks with militants of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), not its leaders,” the newly appointed U. S. ambassador to Yemen Gerald Feierstein said on Monday.

“Unlike their leaders, those militants can be rehabilitated and we can help them to disembarrass from fundamentalist ideology,” Feierstein said in a press conference in Sanaa, describing the AQAP in Yemen “a big size.”
