Look back at war and violence over the decades, as the Human Security Center at Simon Fraser University has done. By almost any measurement — the number and scope of international wars, civil wars, battlefield deaths, even violent crime — the world is more peaceful in the new millennium than it was over virtually all of the last century.
Wars today generally are less frequent, smaller, less bloody. This is not peace. But it’s progress.
