Afghan peace council demands release of Taliban leader from Guantanamo | AHN

In what could upset the United States and further sour relations, Afghanistan’s president-appointed High Peace Council has called for the immediate release of Taliban leader Khairullah Khairkhwa from the controversial Guantanamo Bay prison camp.

The Council’s Political Prisoners Committee’s Chairman Mullah Arsala Rahmani, who was himself a former Taliban minister, in a statement to The Daily Telegraph, said that the detainees would play a significant role in future talks.
