Afghanistan struggles to find lasting peace | Li Xiguang, GlobalTimes

Osama bin Laden is history now. It is time to start focusing on the bigger picture.

The larger picture is to restore peace and national reconstruction in Afghanistan. The interests of Pakistan and Afghanistan rest with the regional peace and economic cooperation instead of a destabilizing war against terror and Islamic ideology.

A holistic approach should be adopted to address both the symptoms and the root causes of terrorism in order to eliminate the breeding ground of this menace, as Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu suggested after the death of Bin Laden.

Li Xiguang is director of the Tsinghua University Center for Pakistan Studies.
