A Nobel laureate challenges Obama | Concord Monitor

Tawakkol Karman, the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner from Yemen, is frustrated by the “ambiguous” policies of the Obama administration toward the Arab Spring.

President Obama has made speeches supporting a transition to democracy in the Middle East and appears to have backed democracy movements in Tunisia and Egypt. But the perception in Yemen, Karman says, is that the administration has not detached itself from the authoritarian regime of Ali Abdullah Saleh, which it has regarded as an ally in fighting terrorism.
