West Africa: Ecowas to Promote Regional Peace and Security | allAfrica.com

The leaders in a communiqué at the end of the 40th ordinary session of Heads of State and Government of West Africa approved the release of three million US dollars to assist Mali deal with the humanitarian consequences of the rebellion by the Tuareg-led MNLA.

As an immediate measure toward implementing the decision, the summit agreed to dispatch a joint African Union-ECOWAS mission led by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo. The mission will engage all political stakeholders in Senegal with a view to promoting dialogue and ensuring peaceful fair and transparent election.
