NAIROBI (Xinhua) — Kenya said on Wednesday that over 500,000 illicit small arms and light weapons are in the wrong hands mainly from Somalia which has lacked an effective central government for over two decades.
Kenya’s Permanent Secretary in the Internal Security Ministry Mutea Iringo said increase in the proliferation of the small arms could be a result of increased trafficking of illegal firearms from Somalia to boost Al-Shabaab attacks and also in defense of intercommunity raids.
