In June, FCNL joined with ten other organizations to send a letter to the members of the Senate Armed Services Committee. The letter expresses concern over the committee’s decision to fund a new nuclear comb plant to be built at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. The Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement (CMRR) facility would increase U.S. capacity to build nuclear weapons and has an estimated cost of $5.8 billion. Appropriations subcommittees in both houses of Congress had already decided not to fund the CMRR when the Senate Armed Services Committee made its decision.
