Obama did send an implicit warning to Israel; while it can bank on America as an ally, Israel will be far less secure, democratic and more isolated, should it fail to achieve peace. The ongoing disunity of the Palestinian government is another obstacle to negotiations resuming. As a frequent visitor to Gaza and the West Bank, I shake my head in sadness that the world has little idea how much damage Israel is doing there on a daily basis. It is relentless, ruthless and unreported and will not stop until the powers that be such as the US, UN and EU apply serious pressure. Obama indeed said, “Just as Israelis built a state in their homeland, Palestinians have a right to be a free people in their own land,” and urged the Israelis to “look at the world through their eyes”. …
