Today is James Foley’s 40th birthday. We don’t know where he’ll be spending it, or how. No one has seen or heard from the American journalist since he was kidnapped while reporting in Syria for GlobalPost and others, almost one year ago. He’s one of at least 15 journalists currently held prisoner in Syria, victims of a tactic that’s becoming only more common as Syria’s war drags on.
In the 11 months that have passed since Foley’s capture, an extensive, international investigation has been launched to determine who took him, and where he is now. Here’s the latest on the ongoing efforts to find, and free, James Foley.
“We are in anguish that our son is still missing in Syria now for almost 11 months,” said Diane Foley, Jim’s mother. “Almost one year of his life is gone. Jim will be 40 years old this Friday, Oct. 18. We want to let him know how much we love him and how hard we are working to find him and bring him home.”
