Abbas hopes Pope’s pen can seal peace | People’s Daily Online

Discussions around the necessity of Middle East peace held Thursday between Pope Francis and the Palestinian president were capped off with a very special gift: a pen.

And not just any pen – this instrument could someday be used to sign a peace deal with Israel, Mahmoud Abbas said after his conversation in the Vatican with Francis.

“I hope that I (will) sign with this (pen) a peace treaty with Israel,” Abbas, the president of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), said after a 30-minute meeting with the pope, who presented the decorative pen, shaped like the pillars on the famous Baldachin in St. Peter’s Basilica.
