Hong Kong Government Arrests Hundreds Of Democracy Protesters, Warns ‘Violence Is Imminent’ | ThinkProgress

Police in Hong Kong early Wednesday morning arrested more than 500 protesters after the city’s annual protest to encourage more democracy in the territory. This year’s march has been fueled by Beijing’s insistence that it has the final say in the future of the territory and has prompted local officials to warn that violence could be imminent.

Earlier this week, voting concluded after a ten-day unofficial referendum on whether the capitalist enclave in China should have a direct say in just who runs the territory.
