FORUM: Our shameful support for extremist Saudi Arabia | Stanley Heller via New Haven Register

Isn’t it humiliating to see our president cut short his trip to India to rush to pay respects to a deceased tyrant? I’m talking about Saudi Arabia, where Obama led a 29-member delegation that included Secretary of State John Kerry along with former Secretaries of State Condoleezza Rice and James Baker III and Sen. John McCain. They all went to Riyadh to pay tribute to the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. In the New York Times we were told about the king’s “moderation” and “reforms.”

Isn’t it appalling to hear our leaders thunder against the atrocities of al-Qaida, Taliban and ISIS while they flatter and arm the Saudi regime whose cruel ideas and practices inspired them? When will this so-called “subtle statecraft” that allegedly protects our national security be revealed as muddled and contradictory and riddled with motives of self-interest?
