Actions to Fight Killingly Gas Power Plant

DEEP Rally and Protest: Wednesday, August 7 at 11:00 a.m. at DEEP headquarters, 79 Elm Street in Hartford.
Signs provided; we will march to the State Capitol Building and the Legislative Office Building.

It is likely that you recognize that we are in a Climate Emergency and need to radically transition our society away from fossil fuels. Unfortunately a few people in the CT state government do not agree. The CT Siting Council has approved a plan for NTE to build a fracked gas power plant in Killingly, CT which will not only harm local air quality and setback efforts to meet emissions reduction goals in state law but also delay the transition to the clean, renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.

In addition to the climate and pollution problems with the plant , we can see from the example of the Inland Empire Energy Center that fracked gas is no longer economically viable. This gas plant will close only 10 years into it’s intended 30 year operating life because renewable technology has improved so much that it is more efficient than a gas plant. It is unwise for the Siting Council to approve a gas plant project when we know that we need to reduce emissions immediately and that there is high probability this plant will be obsolete by the time it is built.

WE DON’T NEED TO WAIT UNTIL SEPT TO ACT FOR THE CLIMATE
ACTIONS TO STOP THE NTE PLANT ARE HAPPENING NOW!
