Joint statement on humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons | NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade

On Oct. 20, New Zealand delivered the 2014 version of the Joint Statement on Humanitarian Consequences of Nuclear Weapons to the UN First Committee. 155 states signed this year, representing a 24% increase from last year's 125 states. This goes to show that efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons aren’t going away, but gaining steam! According to the Joint Statement, "It's in the interest of the very survival of humanity that nuclear weapons are never used again, under any circumstances. The only way to guarantee [this] is through their total elimination."
