Tonight in a televised address from Afghanistan on the U.S.-Afghanistan Strategic Partnership Agreement, President Obama said, “Still, there will be difficult days ahead. The enormous sacrifices of our men and women are not over.” I would add the sacrifices of the Afghan and all the people in the region will also continue.
Without a new strategy, not just a downsizing of the Afghanistan war over the next dozen years, there will be difficult days ahead.
The U.S. presence hinders the Afghan people’s future as it does our future here at home.
The U.S. has no clear strategy for a negotiated peace or a framework for sustainable economic development in Afghanistan.
The future of the Afghan economy and its democracy is stalled by the U.S.’s unwillingness to leave sooner rather than later.
