Zimbabwe: Peace Call – Genuine or Grandstanding? | allAfrica.com

WHEN I heard President Robert Mugabe’s call for peaceful elections as he addressed the crowd gathered for Independence Day celebrations, I couldn’t help but reflect back on these incessant calls.

mugabe-zimbabweSince about October 2012, President Mugabe has been vehemently calling for peaceful elections and for the need to restrain from intimidating the electorate.

The only yawning irony has been how his colleagues and those in state security institutions have been behaving. While President Mugabe is busy shouting out for peaceful elections, a contrasting picture is being painted by his lieutenants.

While President Mugabe is attempting to knit a fabric of peaceful political co-existence towards and during the elections, others in his camp are undoing it.
