New Haven protester says ‘direct action’ key to change | New Haven Register

For Greg Williams … direct action, even when it leads to disruption, is the only way to bring attention to what he see as an unjust situation.

“I think that when your community is suffering and your community is oppressed that you basically have two options,” he said. “You can try to pass the buck onto somebody else or you can attempt to transform the system that is inflicting that suffering and oppression. And so for me it’s always been either I’m working to dismantle oppression or I’m working to inflict it, and I don’t have the luxury of any other options because of my own history and my own location.”

Concerning Palestinian rocket attacks into Israel, Williams said “all war is deplorable,” but that “I think it is best to think about these sort of ongoing violations in the context of a war that has been going on against the Palestinians since 1947. … When you start a war, people sometimes fight back.”
