Israeli Cabinet Minister: Arab Lawmakers Should Be Charged With Treason for Turning to the UN

In order to defend Israel’s new nation-state law that formally removes the rights of 20% of the country’s citizens, ending the charade of democracy, and to shut down critics, Jewish lawmakers have turned truth into treason.

MK Aida Touma-Sliman, who spoke forcefully and eloquently at forums in six Eastern and Midwestern US cities on a tour organized by the US Peace Council, is being attacked for speaking truth and for asking that Israel be held accountable to international law. See below.

We in the United States of America, which funds Israeli wars and fully endorses its Apartheid policies, must find ways to support Palestinians under attack. We can and should insist that our elected representatives stop defending and justifying Israel’s anti-democratic government.

To begin, we must insist that they co-sponsor H.R. 4391: Promoting Human Rights by Ending Israeli Military Detention of Palestinian Children Act. “This bill prohibits U.S. assistance to Israel from being used to support the military detention, interrogation, or ill-treatment of Palestinian children in violation of international humanitarian law.” None of Connecticut’s 5 House members is a co-sponsor.

All of our representatives, including our two Senators, have spoken out against the Trump policies of hatefully separating immigrant children from their parents but have been silent on the same policies employed by the Israeli government. It’s long overdue for Congress to take action against Israel’s Apartheid. Call the Capitol switchboard, 202-224-3121, to urge your representative to sign on. In addition we should call on them to stop sending billions of dollars of our tax money to uphold the undemocratic, discriminatory policies Israel visits on all the Palestinians under its authority.

The Basic Law on Israel as the Nation-State of the Jewish People, also known as the nation-state law, approved by the Knesset on July 19, affirmed that only Jews have the right to self-determination in Israel. It also downgraded Arabic to a language with “special status,” among several other controversial measures that affect the Israeli Druze.
