Sen. Blumenthal Calls for Investigation into Solitary Confinement | ICIJ

Congress must investigate the “inhumane” and “un-American” use of solitary confinement in United States immigration detention centers, U.S. Sen. Richard Bluementhal said in a statement released Friday.

Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, was responding to Solitary Voices an investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and media partners in the U.S., Mexico, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic that chronicled widespread misuse and overuse of isolation in facilities under the control of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.
